Practice Your Sport Utilizing A Sports Simulator

By Bill McCrudden

Have you ever thought about touting a harder slap shot. Or maybe you need to enhance your shot's accuracy. A sports simulator places you in a virtual environment so you can refine those skills and improve your all round game.

Try practicing on sports simulator and engage yourself in a remarkable virtual experience. Pitch against an aggressive hitter, chuck long bombs to receivers, or fire pucks at a nimble goalie. Yet, sport simulators are not completely digital like video games. You're given a more real feeling of the sport by holding tangible elements from the sport in your hands, like a baseball cradled between your fingertips or a football squeezed firmly between your hands.

It is the same for any other sport on a quality simulator. You can work on several facets of popular sports, like the speed of your wrist shot in hockey, or the launch angle of your drive in golf. And, if you focus on a single sport, the virtual experience can help you rapidly develop within that specific sport.

In a baseball simulator, you can pitch in the middle of a simulated game environment. You know that timeless situation: your team leads by one run. You get up on the mound against the opponent's best batter. With two outs in bottom of the 9th, the bases are loaded. The count is 3 balls and two strikes. You now have to step up and actually make that pitch against your simulated opponent. Say you decide the chuck some heat; a simulator can measure how quick you're throwing with its built-in speed gun. But be careful you don't strike the batter or he'll actually flinch and take his base. At the end of your session, a simulator can report back all the stats including how many pitches were tossed, the percentage of strikes versus balls, the number of strikeouts, hits and runs.

Maybe baseball isn't your thing. There are other virtual sports you can play too. In a hockey simulator, you can shoot inside a regulation sized net protected by a life sized goalie who reacts to each shot. He may even deny you with a stick save. Or you can play target practice against bulls eye plates located in the top and bottom corners of the net as well as the five hole. In either case, the simulator can keep a record of goals, saves, the placement of your shots as well as your shots' velocities and the average velocity of all your shots.

A soccer simulator is quite similar to hockey in that you shoot against a goaltender that reacts to your shot. You can also put spin on the ball and bend it like Beckham.

In the football simulator, you may play as either a glorified quarterback, or an underrated kicker. As a quarterback, the sports simulator projects moving receivers onto the field at different locations. These receivers are also guarded by defenders. You must accurately throw to the receivers to get a completion.

When kicking the football, you're provided the yellow uprights against a stadium background. The virtual experience allows you to feel the pressure that professional kickers have to contend with. You're also given a report card of your performance, including your completions, field goals made, missed as well as interceptions.

Virtual sports also feature basketball and golf. In hoops, you're able to shoot several types of shots from numerous different angles, including threes. Playing on a golf simulator, you can tee it up on many golf courses. It is possible to practice from wherever you like, including the fairway, the rough, the sand trap, as well as the green of your favorite course.

You can record your progress and success by collecting the statistics presented to you by the simulator. By tracking your progress, you may refine your technique and work on your accuracy. Also, you receive the benefit of actually holding real sports equipment so you can get a real connection with the tangible elements of the game you are playing. Sports simulators aren't some video game you play with your thumbs.

The old advice has always been, practice makes perfect. With a sports simulator, you are able to keep track of your practice and enhance your game to perfection. In addition, you can always get on a simulator with friends, trash talk and enjoy hours of fun.
