Kids Learn How to Hit a Baseball

By Jeff Wise

When baseball players first learn how to play the game, they must receive the proper instruction if they want to learn how to hit a baseball. This task is one of the most challenging in all of sports and if a player doesn't learn the correct way to do it, they will have trouble hitting.

It really doesn't matter how old a child is because the basic fundamentals of hitting apply to all ages. These hitting mechanics should be taught early on and should be practiced regularly during a player's entire baseball career. Even professionals have to practice the basics.

The very first baseball hitting mechanic to learn is how to hold a bat. Both hands should hold the bad over the back should and in a slightly bent vertical position. It should be raised around six inches above the chest level. Stance is also important. Bend the knees a little and keep the feet shoulder width apart. There's a lot to learn about how to stand, such as open and closed stance, but in the beginning it should just be very simple.

Learning how to swing is obviously important and the only way to get good at it is with much practice. It should be smooth and consistent and the player should feel comfortable while swinging. Another hitting mechanic is the trigger mechanism. This is the transfer of weight on the feet to give you extra power while you swing. If a young player has trouble with this, wait until they get older before trying it again.

Lastly, one of the most important hitting tips is to keep your eyes on the ball. Players must learn to watch the ball at all times. That's the only way they'll be able to hit it. When kids learn these basic mechanics they will become better hitters and better baseball players.

Patience is required for those working with new players. Some kids, especially those who are younger, may have a harder time catching on. Teach them one fundamental at a time until they get it. Then move on to something else. Older kids will be able to learn more hitting mechanics after they get past the basics. Kids should practice hitting mechanics for about 30 minutes during each session.

Learning how to hit a baseball can be a lot of fun, especially when you use the proper mechanics. The best way to become better at hitting is with the right instruction and plenty of practice.
