The Right Batting Tips for Little Leaguers

By Jeff Wise

When young kids first learn how to play baseball, there are several batting tips they must be taught. Little Leaguers don't need to know all the ins and outs of hitting. It's important for parents and coaches to know what should and shouldn't be taught to new players.

Since a six-year-old cannot do the same things as a 12-year-old, he should only be taught the simplest and most basic batting tips. These basic hitting mechanics will help them throughout their baseball career and the best time to learn them is when they're young.

Here are the basic hitting mechanics Little Leaguers should learn: how to choose a good bat, how to hold a bat, how to swing, how to stride, where to look and how to stand in the batter's box. Players will learn these tips at different speeds, so be patient with them.

Coaches and parents should always remind kids that the most important tip is to have fun. It's understandable that kids sometimes get frustrated, but remind them that it's a game that is supposed to be enjoyed. Little Leaguers should learn to work hard and have fun.

There are more batting tips players can learn when they get a little older. Some of these tips include learning the trigger mechanism, bunting, how to avoid hitting slumps, situational hitting, recognizing pitches and hitting to the opposite field. Even experienced players can learn new batting tips.

As for young players, learning the basics can take time. Coaches and parents must be patient and help as much as possible. Don't rush through the basics. Just teach the batting tips one at a time so they'll get the hang of it. Take breaks often so that the kids don't get discouraged or overwhelmed. And don't forget to encourage them to have fun while they're learning how to hit a baseball.
