What's Wrong With The Colts?

By Paul Jackson

I was watching the AFC wildcard matchup in between the Jets along with the Colts and there was a single apparent mismatch within the game all evening. It wasn't Peyton Manning against the Jets pass defense the Jets running game. against the Colts run defense. The mismatch was on the sideline. It was Jim Caldwell that was overmatched.

As significantly as it pains me to say this, the Colts require a brand new coach. Caldwell was out schemed and out coached by Rex Ryan along with the Jets. He failed to create adjustments to ensure that his finest offensive weapon would get the football. Reggie Wayne wasn't even involved on Saturday. Caldwell should have moved Wayne about and ran plays to getWayne involved.

What about the infamous timeout? For what purpose did he call a timeout? What was the logic in that? I am sure that Jim Caldwell is a good man but I think he is in over his head as the Colts head coach. He can get them to the playoffs but he is not Tony Dungy. Peyton Manning is 35 and there are only so many years left in his golden right arm.

The Colts require a leader who can create game plans that give their team the best possibility for good results. The Colts didn't have that this past weekend. Dungy's specialty was in making his defense the best and obtaining the most out of them. He created a defense full of lower round picks and made them good. Caldwell is an offensive coach but he doesn't bring much to the Colt's offense. Every person knows that the Colts offense is the creation of Peyton Manning and Tom Moore.

Last year's Super Bowl appearance is not enough to save his job. Don't forget how great the teams of Brad Childress and Wade Phillips looked last year. Each men have been ceremoniously dismissed given that then.

The Colts will be the best organization for a big name head coach to come into and lead into the playoffs for two or three years.
