It Pays To Take Advantage Of Free Baseball Handicapping

By Austin Garrity

There are some key differences between betting on baseball and other sports. It doesn't make it more difficult, just different. Once you understand the basic concepts it can still take some time to properly apply them and become profitable. Getting the most from your risk is much easier with a little free baseball handicapping.

You should see a number assigned to each team per game. This is the money line. The numbers may be positive or negative and the larger number indicates the underdog while the smaller indicates the favorite.

As in all gambling choosing the underdog brings a bigger win for your risk, while the favorite will bring fewer rewards. A positive number expresses how much is won with $100, and a negative number how much needs to be laid down to win $100. So a -120 means you must risk $120 to win $100, and a +120 means that $100 will win $120.

The money line is based on the starting pitchers for each team. A change in pitchers may alter the odds substantially. Your bet can be placed conditionally on either, both or neither pitcher. This means if you only care who pitches for one team you can ignore who pitches for the other team. If you feel the money is only worth risking because a specific opening match up you can have it withdrawn if there is any change at all.

The establishment makes their money on underdog bets. This means they want to make it an attractive option, giving you better odds on it. They also only look at the opening pitchers. A look at the whole team immediately gives you an advantage.

A huge amount of information goes into choosing the best pick for each game. There are even games not worth betting on. It can take a huge amount of time and effort to gather all of the news and stats that go into making good decisions. A little help in this department can keep things fun and often profitable without turning your entire life into sports' numbers.
