Important Baseball Safety Guidelines

By Athena Hunter

If you didn't consider baseball to be a dangerous sport you might want to rethink that and follow some basic guidelines for safety when involved in this sport. Being hit by a ball or a bat or even another person are among the many ways a player can be injured in a baseball game or practice. In this article, we'll be looking at some safety guidelines that can help prevent injuries and accidents in baseball.

The player who should have the most safety gear is the catcher. It's essential that this is worn at all times. There is a chance that the catcher can be hit by a ball at any time. So, the most helpless areas of the body should be protected. The body gear should be a helmet, face mask, chest protector and the right kind of gloves. The catcher's mask must consist of a throat protector attachment. This is because a fast pitch hitting the throat can be deadly. While all players have to be alert when it comes to safety, the catcher has the most dangerous position and has to be especially careful. Catcher have to be very careful because of all of the pitches that are tossed, but also because they stand so closed behind the batters. More than any other player, the catcher has to be alert at all times.

One danger in baseball that not everyone is aware of are the bases. If a player slides into a stationary base too hard it's pretty easy to injure a leg or foot. If the player is sliding headfirst this can cause head trauma or injury to the arm or hand. A breakaway base is a good solution to this danger because of its ability to come apart when necessary. A breakaway base will remain stable during normal play. If they are not already on board with these breakaway bases you need to be suggesting that they board the train. Teach your players proper methods for sliding into bases and what to look for when sliding into a stationary base.

The sun can be a dangerous factor in baseball. This is because it can be too hot for play, cause sunburns and blind players who are running and trying to catch the balls. Players should always put on sun block in order to avoid getting sunburned. Caps and visors are of the utmost importance. These can help players when dealing with the sunlight in their eyes. The sun is something players should always know about. It will not be in the same position in the sky during the whole game. When sun gets in their eyes, players should remember to be careful when running bases or trying to get the ball. This is one of those unpredictable elements that ball players must learn how to control.

As you can plainly see from the above information the key to staying safe in any baseball game is paying attention to a number of details. Players should be reminded that they must always wear the proper protective gear and be aware of what's going on at all times, whether playing a game or practicing. Stay alert in order to best avoid collisions of ball, bat and person.
