Baseball Safety Rules That Should Always Be Followed

By Harvey Warner

There are many aspects to baseball safety, but a lot of it comes down to fundamentals and staying alert Depending on the league and the age of the players, it may be necessary to remind everyone to follow the rules and wear the proper gear at all times Coaches should be vigilant and keep a close watch on the field and make sure everyone is playing safely and responsibly The principles we'll be discussing in this article can help to keep everyone enjoying the sport safely

Baseball gloves are one of the more unusual pieces of gear in sports, as they are so customized to different players and positions Gloves should be made from high quality materials, fit well and also be of the right size and shape for your position A catcher, for example, needs a large glove with extra padding to withstand the constant impact of catching pitches First basemen have to catch and scoop balls that come from all over the field, so their gloves have to be longer than average A good glove that's made for your position helps you play your best and also protects your wrist and hand

One of the most important ways to increase player safety during games is to ensure that everyone warms up first As with any sport, stretching is important, as it helps to loosen the muscles and prepare the players for action Regular aerobic type workouts are also good to keep everyone in top condition Warming up and exercising is important to do before all practice sessions or games Players should also be reminded of the importance of staying in good shape all year long It would be wrong to conclude that staying fit isn't as essential in baseball as with more obviously physical sports such as football or basketball If players are encouraged to stay as fit and healthy as possible, there will be fewer injuries during games

No matter what sport or type of exercise you're involved with, wearing the right type of shoes is essential Players should have cleated baseball shoes, not cheap or worn out sneakers This can make a big difference when running the bases or running after a fly ball in the outfield The ground you're moving on can change quite a bit based on the field and weather, so you need shoes that support your feet adequately If shoes are worn out, for example, it's much more likely that a player will slip and get injured When playing baseball, you're always better off getting shoes made specifically for this game

In summary, many injuries and accidents in baseball can be avoided if certain basic guidelines, such as the ones discussed above, are kept in mind Baseball is a little deceptive in some ways, as you may be able to get away with being careless for a while, but at some point a serious injury can occur if the right gear isn't worn or safety rules are ignored Players have to be responsible for their own safety to a large extent, but coaches should also pay attention and point out any reckless or irresponsible behavior
