Baseball Safety Tips You Should Think About

By Jocelyn Kinder

Baseball isn't typically considered a dangerous sport like football but there are still some safety concerns to be aware of. Player collisions, ball injuries, and bat injuries are among some of the most common baseball injuries. This article will look at some ways to stay safe and prevent injuries in baseball.

First of all, coaches should be aware of any pre-existing medical conditions or injuries players may have. In most cases, unhealed injuries should not allow a player to continue to play. Immediately assess any injury that occurs during game play. Players aren't often up front about being hurt so coaches need to use their own judgment to decide when medical help is necessary.

The most dangerous factor in baseball is the ball being thrown at high speeds That's why a batting helmet is a must, no matter the age of the player or the type of league. Anyone who steps up to bat is at risk for being hit by a pitch, so it's essential that a high quality helmet be worn This hold true for practice as well as games. A helmet with a face guard provides the most protection, and it's a good idea to use these, especially for children. The most important part of the body to protect, however, is the head, as injuries to this area can cause severe injuries and even be fatal.

When playing in extreme heat it's important to stay well hydrated. Heat exhaustion and sunstroke are common even for healthy players in extreme heat conditions. Calling off games due to heat is a good idea if it's too extreme. If you are the parent of a young player, you should use your judgment about allowing your child to play if the temperatures are going to be unusually high. Hydration, however, while especially critical in the heat, is something that's important in any weather.

If you use some common sense and follow these basic guidelines baseball can be fun. Many accidents and injuries in baseball are a matter of carelessness so use proper safety measures to help prevent as many as possible from happening. No matter whether you are a parent, coach or player it's important that you be aware of what's happening and follow proper rules. You'll have more fun and enjoy the game more by following these rules.
