Tips For Playing Baseball Safely

By Ian Tate

There is always the possibility of getting harmed while playing baseball or any sport and by adhering to specific safety guidelines, players can tremendously decrease the possibility of having problems while playing. By staying in shape, wearing the correct gear and focusing during the games and practices, the chance of getting injured decreases. Let us look at a few of the key things to remember in order to remain safe while playing baseball.

The player who needs the most safety gear is the catcher. It is very important that it is always worn. The catcher risks being hit by a pitch at any time. This includes a helmet, face mask, chest protector and the proper glove. The catcher's mask should also have a throat protector attached to it. This is because a fast ball to the throat can be lethal. While players have to be aware when it comes to being safe, the catcher has the most dangerous position on the team and has to really be cautious. Catchers have to be careful not only because of pitches being thrown but because they're right behind batters as well. More than any other player, the catcher has to be alert at all times.

There are many debates going on in baseball regarding the safety of metal bats. They are liked by a lot of hitter because they are more stronger than wooden bats. Also, they allow for greater impact when the ball is hit. This, of course, is the very thing that makes them more dangerous. Some studies suggest that injuries can be reduced by using wooden bats, especially for younger players. If you or your child's league still uses metal bats, you may want to look into this. Even if new wooden bats have to be bought just to replace the old ones, safety should still be a top priority.

The sun can be a dangerous factor in baseball. This is because it can produce blistering heat, create sunburns and blind players when they are running to catch the ball. Players should always put on sunscreen in order to be shielded from sunburn. Caps and visors are of the utmost importance. These can aid players in handling the sun that gets in their eyes. The sun is something players should always be aware of. It will not be in the same position during the whole game. When sun gets in their eyes, players should remember to be careful when running bases or trying to get the ball. This is one of the unplanned things that players have to be able to handle.

Baseball has a never ending appeal. By using these simple safety rules, players can play the game with reduced chances of getting injured. You can't always predict when something might go wrong. If players wear the right gear and abide by the rules, then baseball will become much safer.
