During the game, coaches should be focused not only on winning strategies, but on the safety of players as well. The baseball safety tips that follow are some simple ways to reduce the chances of mishaps.

The baseball glove is a vital tool that's made a little differently for every player on the field. Gloves should be made from high quality materials, fit well and also be of the right size and shape for your position. If you're the catcher, you need a glove that's sufficiently large and insulated for you to catch high speed pitches for hours on end. If you're playing first base, you have to be able to catch balls that aren't perfectly aimed, so you need a long glove that gives you extra reach. You're both safer and able to play better when you have the right type of glove for your hand and your position.

One of the most important ways to increase player safety during games is to ensure that everyone warms up first. In order to have everyone's muscles loose, it's a good idea to stretch before playing. Athletes should also do regular cardio exercises to maintain a high level of fitness. Workouts get players properly warmed up and prepared for the kind of movements they have to make when playing the game. A high level of fitness in general will bring out the best in players, and also keep them safer when playing. Staying fit is something that should be remembered all year, not only during the baseball season. If players are encouraged to stay as fit and healthy as possible, there will be fewer injuries during games.

Baseball players, like all athletes, must wear the right type of shoes to be safe and play their best. Baseball shoes or cleats are far preferable to generic athletic shoes, and shoes should be in good shape. Whether you're playing the infield or outfield, or sliding into a base, your shoes can make a real difference. Adequate support for your feet is essential, especially considering the variable conditions of baseball fields from one place to another or one day to another. Poorly made or worn shoes can cause players to lose their footing and get hurt. Players who are serious about baseball should get cleats or baseball shoes that are well made and fit well.

The baseball safety guidelines covered above are quite simple, but they can help to keep all players healthier and safer during every game. While baseball is not usually perceived as a dangerous sport, and it's not if proper guidelines are followed, there are always potential dangers with balls traveling at high speeds and bats being swung.
