Batting Tips for Pro Baseball Tryouts

By Jeff Wise

Many high school baseball players think about the future of their baseball career. Will they play in college? Will they make the Major Leagues? One of the best ways to excel your baseball career is to go to a pro baseball tryout.

Before going to a tryout like this, you should know a few things. In advance, prepare both mentally and physically. Get a lot of sleep the night before, drink lots of water and eat a good breakfast the morning of the tryout. Mentally focus on what you've got to do to have a great tryout. Especially focus on the hitting portion as that is the part that will most impress scouts.

At the practice, don't spend all of your energy on the warm-up or drills. You'll need your energy for hitting. When it's time to hit, be aggressive and try to get near the front of the line. Those who hit first get the best pitches and they're also noticed more. This is not a time to be timid.

When you step up to the plate, get in a comfortable position as quickly as you can. Try to relax, but remember that you don't have much time. Stay calm and hit the ball solid. Don't try to impress the scouts with home runs. Just focus on the mechanics and hit the best you can.

If a scout approaches you, that's fantastic news. But if not, don't worry about it. Just practice more and work on your hitting skills. There should be several pro baseball tryouts you can attend each year.

If you happen to know of any scouts in your area, try to get to know them or at least give them your contact information. Then, if they see you at a tryout they'll remember you and pay attention more. Good networking can greatly benefit your baseball career.
