Run Faster With Running Shoes

By Dame Anderson

The positive aspects of wearing lightweight running shoes are abundant and complex. Above all when running a event of any length a weight adjustment of only a few ounces can make you run significantly faster. For general training runs a lighter shoe is definitely going to make things a lot easier. Certainly, there are downsides to putting on super lightweight shoes that I'll bring up, but for the most part lightweight running shoes are great!

In racing, any narrow advantage you can get over your competitors will be a perk. Regardless of whether it's a road race, a track meet, a marathon, or cross-country, the weight of your shoes will play a big part in how fast you can finish. A lightweight shoe will will take less energy to lift and will provide a mental benefit by making your feet feel light as a feather. Making the change to a lighter race shoe is one of the best ways to slice a few seconds off your PR race times.

During your normal exercises, a lightweight shoe can be good. For instance, the hardest weekly workout you do. It's certainly a speed run of some kind, maybe 800 repeats? Now think about that run with lighter shoes. You'll be running faster and smoother than you can imagine with a new pair of lightweight running shoes.

Most of the really lightweight running shoes don't support your feet too well. So, if your feet tend to over or under pronate, you'll need to confirm you're still putting on a shoe that will deliver a good amount of support. The last thing you want to have happen is getting hurt due to the fact that you wore the wrong shoe.

My suggestion? Get an excellent pair of racing shoes particular to the kind of races you do. You'll definitely desire spikes of some kind for a track meet, while a wide range of shoes are acquirable for additional road races. For your long distance training runs, you'll have the inclination to ensure you've bought a good combination of good support without adding a lot of chunk. It's hard to choose for your speed workouts. You may need to get some super-lightweight training shoes specifically for that goal, or you could just don your regular trainers. It's totally a matter of personal preference.
